Brand deals in India start much earlier than most people think. Nano-influencers with 5K–10K engaged followers get paid collaborations, especially in local niches.

1. Choose a niche you can talk about for a year

Fashion on a budget, Kerala travel, fitness for working women, regional comedy, personal finance in Hindi. A narrow niche makes you easier to recommend.

2. Post consistently for 90 days

Reels 4–5 times a week, stories daily. Most people quit before they find their format.

3. Hit the milestones brands filter by

Influencer platforms and agencies often filter at 1K, 5K, 10K and 50K followers. Getting past these lines – organically or with a starter boost of Indian followers – makes you visible to more campaigns.

4. Make a simple media kit

One page: who you are, follower count, average reel views, audience age and city split (from Insights), past collaborations, and rates.

5. Pitch, don't wait

DM or email ten local brands a week with a specific idea. Small brands rarely have agencies; they respond to direct pitches.

6. Keep engagement healthy

Brands now check reel views and engagement rate, not just followers. Keep those in proportion.
