We talk to a lot of people trying to grow on Instagram – shop owners, college creators, coaches, home bakers. The ones who grow fastest aren't doing anything secret. They do a few boring things consistently. Here's the list, roughly in order of how much difference each one makes.

1. Post reels, not just photos

Photos mostly reach people who already follow you. Reels get shown to people who don't. If your goal is new followers, reels are the main lever. Four or five a week is a good target; one a day if you can manage it.

What works in India right now: short (7–20 second) reels with a clear hook in the first second, text on screen (most people watch muted), and trending audio picked up within the first couple of days of the trend.

2. Make one thing, really well

Pages that post about "food, travel, motivation and memes" don't grow. Pages that post Kolkata street food under ₹50 do. A narrow topic tells Instagram exactly who to show your content to, and it tells people why they should follow you.

3. Post when your followers are online

Open Insights → Total followers → Most active times. For most Indian audiences, the spikes are around 1–2 pm and 8–11 pm IST. Posting 30 minutes before the peak gives your reel time to collect early engagement.

4. Reply to everything in the first hour

Comments – and your replies to them – are one of the signals Instagram uses to decide whether to keep pushing a post. Stay on the app for the first hour after posting and reply to every comment.

5. Use Collab posts

The Collab feature puts one post on two profiles. Find an account your size in a related niche (a café and a food blogger, a gym and a nutritionist) and co-post. Both audiences see it, and it's free.

6. Hashtags: few and specific

Five specific hashtags beat thirty generic ones. #mumbaifoodie is more useful than #food. Put them in the caption, not the first comment.

7. Fix your profile before anything else

Clear profile photo, a one-line bio that says what you do and for whom, a link, and three pinned posts. If someone lands on your profile from a viral reel and can't tell what you're about in two seconds, they won't follow.

Where paid boosts fit in

Social proof is real. A new account with 60 followers struggles to convert visitors into followers, even with great content, because people assume nobody else found it worth following. Many of our customers buy a starting base – say 1,000–2,000 followers – so the profile looks established, then keep growing with the steps above.

If you go that route: pick a refill plan, never share your password with anyone, and put a few hundred likes on your recent posts so the numbers line up.

The short version

Reels, a narrow niche, good timing, replies, collabs, and a profile that explains itself. Do those for 90 days and you'll grow. A paid boost just helps the first impression while you do.
