YouTube Monetization Requirements in India (2026)
By the SMMZO team · Updated 5 September 2026 · 2 min read
Buy YouTube Watch Time (4000 Hours) – from ₹8,334.91 per 1000, pay by UPI.
See pricesTo earn ad money on YouTube you need to join the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP). Here's what it takes, and what most Indian creators get stuck on.
Full monetisation (ad revenue)
You need one of these:
- 1,000 subscribers + 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months, or
- 1,000 subscribers + 10 million valid public Shorts views in the last 90 days.
You also need to follow YouTube's policies, live in an eligible country (India is), have 2-Step Verification on, and link an AdSense account. Then YouTube reviews your channel manually.
The lower tier
In India and many other countries there's also an earlier YPP tier for fan-funding features (memberships, Super Thanks, Super Chat) with lower requirements – currently 500 subscribers plus a smaller amount of watch time or Shorts views. Check YouTube Studio → Earn for the numbers that apply to you right now; YouTube adjusts them occasionally.
Where people get stuck
Subscribers usually come first. Watch hours are the wall – 4,000 hours is a lot for a small channel. Long videos (20+ minutes) and live streams help because each view adds more time.
How to get there faster
- Make some long videos: tutorials, podcasts, full recipe walk-throughs.
- Do live streams – live watch time counts once the stream is saved publicly.
- Build playlists so viewers keep watching.
If you want a push, our watch-time packages deliver hours on a long public video, and subscriber plans handle the other half. Use the monetisation calculator to see how much you need.
One important thing
YouTube reviews the channel itself, not just the numbers. Make sure your videos are original and follow the guidelines – reuploaded content gets rejected regardless of numbers.
